Most important and most difficult part of the editor is the making of the front panel.
My first approach was to use same Eurorack blind panels with 2mm aluminium. I used an adhesive foil printed by a laser printer for the labeling. However I am not satisfied with that sulution, because the lettering peels off easily and the foil lifts sometime. Therefor a custom made panel would be perfect.
Asking a professional panel company, it turned out that a panel of that size and low quantities costs more than 1000€, so this is out of the question.
I made some experiments with my CNC milling machine. Drilling and engraving the lettering on aluminium is quite difficult, but using 3mm 3-layer HPL (High pressure Laminate) looks very promising. This is a glossy white material, hard enough to allow pin sharp lettering. The engraved lines are then filled with black paint.
